Valentine’s Day weekend in Coral Springs: Meetups, memorials, music & more
Valentine’s Day weekend is set to be bittersweet in Coral Springs, as the city marks another year since the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland took the lives of 17 students, teachers and staff, leaving hundreds more with deep grief and trauma.
But, the city is still finding ways to celebrate the day of love in a variety of ways, with a kid-friendly glow party and singles mixer, plus painting workshops and brunch events to celebrate all the ways that affection and care are displayed in reisdents’ lives.
Here’s what’s happening in Coral Springs from Friday, Feb. 13, through Sunday, Feb. 15:
Friday
Let’s Glow Crazy! (6 to 9 p.m.)
The city’s Department of Parks and Recreation will hold its annual glow party at the Coral Springs Gymnasium with a live DJ, LED dance cloor, UV mini golf, axe throwing and more. The event will also have a “Calm Corner” — a separate, quiet room with softer lighting and seating. Ear plugs and fidget toys will also be available. Tulum Prime singles mixer (9 p.m. to 1 a.m.)
Adults ages 28 to 45 are invited to this tequila lounge and restaurant for a night of conversation and connection. Tickets cost $13.39 per person or $19.10 for two on Eventbrite. Learn more on Facebook.
Saturday
Runners Depot Shakeout Run and Panel (7:30 to 9:30 a.m.)

Ignite your Heart Yoga Valentine’s Day brunch (8 to 11 a.m.)
The boutique yoga and pilates studio will host a celebration of self-love, strength and community this Valentine’s Day, featuring bagels and other light bites, fresh juices and coffee. Tickets cost $20. Get more information on Facebook.
VITA income tax assistance at Northwest Regional Library (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
If your household income is below $75,000, you may qualify for free, professional tax preparation services from experts at Broward Tax Pro (formerly known as VITA, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program) — and you can get it in person this weekend at the Northwest Regional Library. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School anniversary commemoration (noon to 3 p.m.)
The Forever in Our Hearts Commemoration brings the Coral Springs and Parkland communities together in memory of the 17 people killed during the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting on Feb. 14, 2018: Alyssa Alhadeff, Scott Beigel, Martin Duque, Nicholas Dworet, Aaron Feis, Jaime Guttenberg, Chris Hixon, Luke Hoyer, Cara Loughran, Gina Montalto, Joaquin Oliver, Alaina Petty, Meadow Pollack, Helena Ramsay, Alex Schachter, Carmen Schentrup and Peter Wang.
Hosted by Eagles’ Haven, the community center created in the wake of the tragedy, the ceremony will include a candle lighting and dove release, as well as acknowledgement of survivors and family members. Learn more on Facebook or the Eagles’ Haven website.
Pokémon-themed Valentine’s Day event at Guildhall Anime Lounge (1 to 7 p.m.)
Head to Coconut Creek’s gaming hub for a pay-as-you-go afternoon featuring Pokémon-themed drinks and desserts, activities, trading card vendors and community. Learn more on Meetup.
Make heart keychains with a 3D printer (2 to 3 p.m.)
Celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Northwest Regional Library’s Creation Station with this workshop, where residents of all ages can learn to create a custom keychain with a state-of-the-art 3D printer. Registration is required — sign up on the Broward County Libraries events page.
Paint ‘n Sip at Coral Springs Museum of Art (5 to 7 p.m.)
Enjoy fresh drinks and meet new friends while participating in an expert-led painting class at the local art museum. This installation of the event will focus on Gustav Klimt’s most celebrated work, The Kiss — exploring contrasting patterns, vibrant colors and simple techniques for painting the human form. Sunday
Joyful Resistance and Commissioner Joshua Simmons (7 to 8 p.m.)
In his first major public appearance since declaring his candidacy for mayor of Coral Springs, City Commissioner Joshua Simmons will sit down for a virtual discussion with members of Joyful Resistance, the group leading No Kings efforts in the city. This event is free to attend, but registration is required via the group’s website.

“The Wedding Singer”
See the hit Adam Sandler film translated to the stage at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts on Friday and Saturday. Audiences will be immersed in romance and 1980s fun as Robbie, a wedding singer, falls for Julia, a waitress engaged to the wrong guy.
