Last week, Taquería La Yaquesita was one of the few restaurants shut down for health and safety violations in Coral Springs this fall.

During a routine visit on Nov. 18, inspectors with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation spotted wastewater backing up through floor drains when the restaurant’s only hand-washing sink was used. According to the report, the drain is “located directly in front of [the] cook line and cannot be isolated from food prep areas.”

This is a serious violation, as it risks exposing food, utensils, equipment and employees to contaminants, according to the agency. It can also signal deeper problems with an establishment’s sewage system, including blockages and poor maintenance.

Inspectors said they returned the same day and the issue had been resolved.

Other notable inspections

Serious Sanji Dumplings on University Drive had its routine inspection on Nov. 20 and received 18 total violations, including four high priority issues. These included raw chicken and bean sprouts being improperly stored and soap missing from the hand-washing sink.

Inspectors returned the following day and wrote the restaurant had corrected its violations, though several were repeat issues that could lead to a formal complaint.

The Pollo Tropical on University Drive and Atlantic Boulevard was cited for having ants on the wall near its ice cooler and in a container of ketchup packets. The inspection report indicates this is a repeat issue.

Julian’s Bagel Place on Wiles Road had its routine inspection last week and received six total violations, four of them high priority. These largely centered on temperature issues, including improper storage of salmon, eggs, butter and pancake batter. The offending items were discarded. A follow-up inspection was recommended but has not yet been completed.

All In Good Taste catering on Wiles Road was cited for using overly-concentrated sanitizing solution on its utensils and not washing some fruits before adding them to a juicer. A follow-up inspection was recommended but has not yet been completed.
