Red Lobster eyes more closures. What about Coral Springs location? What we know
More closures could be on the horizon for a popular seafood chain as the company continues recovering from its 2024 bankruptcy filing.
Red Lobster CEO Damola Adamolekun told The Wall Street Journal that the company is evaluating its leases and overall real estate footprint, a process that could result in more restaurant closures.
The chain shuttered about 130 locations nationwide during its restructuring two years ago.
Though no Florida restaurants have been identified for closure, the company currently operates 32 locations across the state, including one in Coral Springs, located at 2000 University Drive.
The Coral Springs News reached out to the chain for comment and had not heard back as of Feb. 19.
Company officials have indicated that the goal is to operate fewer restaurants overall and concentrate on top-performing locations.
Red Lobster filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2024 after struggling with mounting losses, including financial fallout from its unlimited shrimp promotion and declining customer traffic.
Following the bankruptcy process, the company came out with new ownership, about $70 million in investments and Adamolekun as chief executive.
It remains unclear which locations would be impacted by the expected closures.
