The reports are in from the restaurant health inspections in June, and some eateries in Coral Springs performed well, while others racked up double-digit citations for food and hygiene violations.

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation hasn’t closed a restaurant in Coral Springs since the end of April, when inspectors temporarily shut down Tijuana Flats on Sample Road due to roaches.

In June, it appears no Coral Springs restaurants aced their inspections on the first try. While not perfect, sit-down restaurants that did well were Tijuana Taxi at 901 N. University Drive, with one violation, and How Ya Dough’n at 3260 University Drive with two.

The restaurant with the most violations was Fuji Mura Hibachi and Sushi at 1850 N. University Drive. During a June 9 inspection, the buffet-style eatery was cited for 13 infractions.

The inspector noted fly sticky tape with “accumulation of flying insects hanging in food preparation areas.” Pest control methods can’t be located over food stations, where they could contaminate dishes underneath.

The restaurant was issued a stop sale for beef and chicken being held in a cooler over 41 degrees Fahrenheit, which could allow for bacteria growth. The inspector noticed this was a repeat violation. Several pieces of sushi were also not marked with the time they were prepared, records show.

Next, Casa Tequila Mexican Restaurant in the Magnolia Shoppes on Westview Drive was hit with 10 violations, albeit mostly basic violations. The restaurant reportedly stacked wet pots and pans together and didn’t cover taco bowls. The kitchen was also missing signage, such as no posts about the Heimlich maneuver or handwashing.

Other issues were found at El Cubano Sandwich Shop at 12440 W. Atlantic Blvd., which was cited for two flies in the kitchen and black substance built up on parts of the wall and ceiling tiles.

And during a callback inspection at Tulum Mexican Cuisine, the restaurant at 650 Riverside Drive was cited for a dirty ice machine and black substance on the AC vents and the ceiling, records show.

Tijuana Flats has improved its inspection track record since the temporary shutdown, but the restaurant was still docked during a June visit when an employee was seen not washing their hands before putting on gloves to work with food.
