Madison County deputy struck by vehicle in three-way wreck
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a three-way crash that took place in Madison County and injured a sheriff's deputy and another man during a traffic stop.
The crash occurred around mile marker 250 along Interstate 10 sometime around 7:50 p.m., according to a news release.
According to FHP, the Madison County Sheriff's patrol vehicle was parked alongside a vehicle on the south shoulder of the interstate facing east while another vehicle was heading eastbound.
As the first vehicle approached the patrol car and the other parked vehicle, it traveled onto the north paved apron of the road. That led to the driver of the car oversteering and traveling across both eastbound lanes and onto the south shoulder of the roadway and colliding with both parked vehicles.
The deputy and the driver of the other vehicle were outside of their vehicles at the time of the crash and were struck during the incident. Both of them were taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with serious incapacitating injuries. And the outside eastbound lane of I-10 was closed at the time but has since been reopened.
"The deputy is alert and stable but sustained serious injuries and is being transported by air to a Tallahassee area hospital," the Madison County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook. "Information is limited at this time however I humbly ask our community to pray for our deputy."
