During their first meeting of 2026, Coral Springs City Commissioners dedicated Jan. 7 in memory of fallen Army specialist Daniel J. Agami.

Agami, 25, and four others died on June 21, 2007, during a patrol outside of Baghdad, Iraq, after an IED exploded under their vehicle.

The State Road 7 bridge over Sample Road was named in his honor on Dec. 15. Elected officials from across the region attended the ceremony, including several commissioners.

Agami grew up in Broward County, attended Hebrew Academy Community School in Margate and graduated from Coconut Creek High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001 and deployed to Iraq in 2006.

Affectionately called “G.I. Jew” and “the Hebrew Hammer,” Agami stood out among his fellow soldiers because of his Orthodox Jewish faith, which he maintained throughout his deployment.

He is survived by his mother, father, brother and sister.
