Tina Polsky, who has served in the Florida Senate since 2020, will not run for re-election in Senate District 30, which includes Coral Springs, she announced Tuesday.

She has endorsed Lauren Book, known nationwide for her work in child sex abuse prevention, according to a post on Book’s social media accounts on Wednesday, May 27.

“Lauren Book has spent her life turning pain into purpose and fighting for people who too often go unheard,” Polsky said in the endorsement.

“She is one of the most compassionate, relentless, and effective advocates I have ever had the pleasure of serving with — and Florida Senate District 30 would be extraordinarily well represented by her leadership once again.”

Book served in the state Senate from 2016 to 2024, was unanimously chosen to lead the state’s Democratic caucus and later became minority leader during the 2022-2024 session.

Her accomplishments included a probe into the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office’s handling of Jeffrey Epstein and removing Confederate Memorial Day from the state’s list of legal holidays.

Senate Democratic Leader Lori Berman and Senator Mack Bernard also endorsed her for SD 30, which encompasses all of Coral Springs, Parkland, Coconut Creek and Margate, as well as parts of Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach.

Book’s sole competitor, as of May 27, is Republican Jerusa Zitta. According to her campaign website, the Brazilian-American is an “America First” conservative.

“Our values are not outdated, our Constitution is not negotiable,” Zitta’s website says. “I am running to serve with courage, conviction, and integrity standing for life, faith, and strong families to secure a safer, freer future for our communities and our state.”

Coral Springs Rep. Dan Daley has also hinted at a possible bid for the seat, according to Florida Politics.
