This Florida Department of Education’s list of “Schools of Excellence” for the 2024-25 academic year is out, with 46 from Broward County earning recognition.

Four are in Coral Springs:

The program, established by the Florida Legislature in 2017, recognizes elementary, middle and high schools whose average student grades and standardized test scores are in the top 20% for at least two of the past three years.

It isn’t just a title — Florida “Schools of Excellence” are rewarded with increased flexibility on school day start and end times, class sizes, weekly minimum reading instruction time, and teacher certification renewal.

The honor also grants schools priority for some state funding opportunities, such as the Florida School Recognition Program, which awards schools with sustained improvement with $100-per-student payouts. The funds can be used to further improve resources or for staff bonuses.

“This significant achievement reflects the dedication of our educators and the support of our families and community partners, reaffirming our commitment to providing high-quality learning experiences for every student,” Broward County Public Schools superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn said in an Oct. 8 news release.
