The highest-ranked public elementary school and middle school in Coral Springs are actually one and the same, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Renaissance Charter School at Coral Springs, a K-8 school in Broward County Public Schools, was listed as the best-performing school in the city, according to rankings released Oct. 28.

Renaissance Charter ranked No. 157 in Florida among middle schools and No. 313 among elementary schools.

U.S. News calculated the ranking based on schools’ performance on standardized tests, as well as how students performed relative to expectations.

Charter schools dominated the list.

“U.S. News predicted each school’s mathematics and reading proficiencies using statewide, subject-specific linear regressions,” according to the methodology. “To make predictions, these statistical models examined the extent to which schools whose students had similar socioeconomic profiles achieved proficiency in mathematics and reading.”

According to the ranking, 72% of students at Renaissance scored at or above the proficient level for math, and 65% scored at or above proficiency in reading.

The next highest-ranking local middle schools were Westglades Middle, which is technically in Parkland but serves some areas of Coral Springs, and Coral Springs Charter. They’re ranked No. 194 and No. 202 in the state, respectively.

For elementary schools, next in line were Park Springs (No. 416), Panacea Prep Charter School (No. 419) and Eagle Ridge Elementary (No. 421).
