A 22-year-old masked man is accused of trying to sexually assault a woman who was walking home in Coral Springs.

Jamarion Walden is charged with sexual assault with a weapon and false imprisonment stemming from a Nov. 9 daytime incident near the Wood Lake neighborhood, records show.

The Coral Springs News reached out to Walden’s attorney for comment on the incident Nov. 19 but did not immediately receive a response.

A woman reported she was walking home from the Dollar Tree on Sample Road and Coral Ridge Drive when she noticed a man whose face was fully covered by a balaclava stopped in front of her, police wrote in an arrest affidavit.

She told Coral Springs officers that as she passed by him, he fell in step closely behind her before suddenly grabbing her hips and throwing her to the ground, according to police.

She recounted he pulled down her pants and moved her underwear aside as she began yelling for help, the affidavit says.

She said she tried to stand up, and he pulled her across the street to a shaded area, police wrote in the report. Passing vehicles momentarily made him hesitate, allowing the woman to try to run away, but she said he grabbed her again and pulled her back to the shaded area, according to officers.

The man reportedly told her to stop screaming and that he had a gun in his pocket, the woman said.

She told police the man touched her genitals before she broke away and ran home when a vehicle paused at a stop sign, causing her accused attacker to release her.

Officers reported finding a man matching Walden’s description a couple hours later, but he was released at the time. Another woman confirmed seeing a man wearing a ski mask and tracksuit closely aligning with the description the survivor gave, police said.

The woman underwent a sexual assault examination, and Walden was located a second time and detained, police said. Surveillance footage obtained by police showed Walden following the woman, investigators said.

He gave inconsistent information about how the woman ended up on the ground but said he tried to help her up after she fell, according to the report. Police said he didn’t have a weapon when he was detained.

“He confirmed the contact occurred first in the roadway and later by a tree across the street, and admitted that he walked her across the street while holding her, describing the hold as ‘like hugging,’” police wrote.

He also said he told the woman he had a gun and said he knew he was wrong to do what he did, according to the report.

“When asked about intent, Walden first denied any sexual purpose, then stated he was ‘probably trying to touch her,’” detectives wrote in the affidavit.

Police said he wobbled on whether he would have tried to rape her before deciding he “would have probably tried to touch her, that’s all,” according to the report.

Records show he’s being held in Broward’s Mail Jail.
