Coral Springs man charged in road rage case that left woman hospitalized, cops say
After an appeal to a judge, a 68-year-old Coral Springs resident accused of road rage is once again permitted to drive.
Howard Elliot Seiler faces two charges, including burglary with assault or battery, a felony, following a videotaped road rage incident that sent one woman to a hospital, according to a Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
According to a sworn statement from the victim, she was driving on the morning of Dec. 2 when she yielded to bicyclists headed east on the 9600 block of Hillsboro Boulevard in Parkland, investigators said.
Seiler, who was driving his Mercedes behind her, then cut in front of the victim and stopped immediately in front of her vehicle, according to the report.
The victim stated that Seiler entered through her driver’s side door and pulled her by her arms. She added that she then exited the vehicle to confront him.
An independent witness and cell phone video of the incident were used to add detail to Seiler’s arrest paperwork.
According to police, the cell phone video captured a verbal argument between Seiler and the victim in the roadway. The exchange turned violent when Seiler pushed the victim.
When the victim went back to her vehicle, Seiler followed her, investigators said. As she went to enter the car, Seiler slammed the driver’s side door, which hit the right side of the victim’s forehead and caused a large bruise, the report says.
Seiler left the scene without checking on the victim, who was taken to Coral Springs Medical Center, investigators say.
According to records, Seiler viewed the video while in police custody and confirmed that he was the man pictured in it.
He is pleading not guilty to both charges — felony burglary with assault or battery, and misdemeanor battery.
Seiler, who was released from the Broward County Main Jail after posting a $15,000 bond, had his pretrial release modified by a judge on Dec. 12 and is able to drive again.
