The boyfriend of a woman involved in a crash threatened the other driver, then resisted police’s request for him to leave, ending in him getting Tased, according to Coral Springs police.

Eduardo Josue Gonzalez, 20, is charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence and fleeing a police officer with wanton disregard, all third-degree felonies, according to Broward records. He was also cited on failure to register a motor vehicle.

His attorney information wasn’t available in court records Jan. 8.

Officers were working a crash scene with injuries at Sample Road and Terrapin Lane the evening of Dec. 30 when Gonzalez arrived to support his girlfriend, who was involved in the accident, police wrote in a probable cause affidavit.

Police said Gonzalez began “making derogatory remarks at the driver believed to be at fault for the traffic crash,” as another man also confronted the driver. When police ordered the two of them to leave, they refused, according to the officer’s report.

Gonzalez is accused of threatening the driver, reportedly saying, “If the police weren’t present that he (would) shoot him,” police wrote.

When the men still didn’t leave after multiple commands, police tried to take Gonzalez into custody, according to the affidavit.

Gonzalez is accused of pushing the officer in the chest and taking off toward his pickup truck as the officer pursued him. As Gonzalez started the truck, the officer pulled out his stun gun and used it on Gonzalez, according to the report.

“At some point during this exchange, the defendant placed the vehicle into drive to further evade the arrest, which resulted in the vehicle to drive forward toward other officers, fire rescue personnel and citizens,” police wrote.

After the Taser was deployed, officers pulled Gonzalez out of the truck and onto the ground, and after additional struggle, they cuffed him, according to the report. The North Lauderdale man was transported to a hospital before he went to jail, and records show he posted bond.

The arrest paperwork lists that an officer was injured.

The other man accused of confronting the driver in the crash was arrested and charged with two misdemeanors: obstruction without violence and approaching a first responder with intent after a warning to impede. The 48-year-old also has an immigration detainer and was in jail as of Jan. 8.
