Want to support native wildlife and environmental education while shopping for spring?

The Sawgrass Nature Center in Coral Springs is opening the season with its biannual Orchid and Garden Festival, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, and Sunday, March 1.

Every ticket sold helps the center care for over 1,100 injured native animals from across the tri-county area each year and provide environmental education to more than 10,000 people.

Orchids will be the center of attention, with vendors highlighting unique species with a variety of colors and scents. That doesn’t mean other tropical plants will be left out, though — and even those who aren’t looking for a new item for their garden can shop for jewelry, accessories, decor and more from small local businesses.

The event, which runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, will also feature interactive children’s activities, and those of all ages can meet the center’s wildlife ambassadors and learn more about the South Florida ecosystem.

Tickets cost $8, with free admission for children under 6 years old, and are available on the Sawgrass Center ticketing website or at the door.

Parking is available at Sawgrass Springs Middle School with a golf cart shuttle service, as parking is extremely limited at the event. Accessibility accommodations are also available upon request.
