Woman accused of organizing robbery found on roof during SWAT standoff, cops say
A woman suspected of organizing a robbery that led to a shooting in Coral Springs was found hiding on the roof of her home during a SWAT operation, according to police.
Coral Springs police suspected 21-year-old Kayden Williams arranged the Jan. 26 robbery of half an ounce of marijuana that led to a victim being shot three times, and she was arrested after an hourslong SWAT standoff the next day, according to Williams’ arrest affidavit.
As of Feb. 2, records show she hasn’t been charged in connection with the shooting. She’s currently charged with possession of a weapon or ammunition by a felon or person adjudicated delinquent and resisting an officer without violence.
A 20-year-old man identified as Bernado Inelus, of Pompano Beach, has been charged with attempted murder and robbery with a firearm causing great bodily harm. He was arrested at a home on Riverside Drive on Jan. 27, records show.
The Coral Springs Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics Unit headed to Williams’ home on NW 36th Street the evening of Jan. 27 to execute a search warrant, documents show.
Williams’ two family members and a roommate exited the home as instructed, but Williams didn’t turn herself over to police, according to investigators.
Officers said they used a loudspeaker to tell her to come out, as neighbors gathered to watch the scene, but she didn’t emerge for over two and a half hours, the report says.
Shortly before 11 p.m., officers entered and swept the home, finding live rounds of ammunition on the desk in Williams’ bedroom and in a yellow fanny pack that she was seen wearing the day before, police said. The ammo matched the kind used in two previous shootings, according to the arrest report.
“Kayden Williams is suspected in orchestrating both robberies, which led to the shootings involving the same ammunition,” police wrote in the affidavit.
Eventually, officers reported finding Williams hiding on the roof of the home, and she was taken into custody shortly after midnight on Jan. 28.
As a 17-year-old, Williams was charged with attempted murder, three counts of robbery with a firearm and three counts of armed burglary, according to court documents. Less than two weeks before turning 18, she was adjudicated delinquent, which is different than a conviction.
The investigation is ongoing.
