Public artwork in Coral Springs will help usher in the 250th anniversary celebration of the nation’s founding.

The city has put out its call for artists to pitch sculptures for a yearlong exhibit, with a March 1 submission deadline.

Up to four pieces will be unveiled at the May 1 community concert in Coral Springs and will be a “key element” of the Fourth of July festivities at Mullins Park, according to documents from the Public Art Committee.

The exhibit will “serve as a visual representation of not only our collective history as a country, but also our goals for the future,” according to the CaFÉ listing.

The display locations will include Mullins Park, City Hall lawn and Veterans Park. After the art has displayed for a year, the art committee is authorized to spend up to $55,000 on one piece or series for permanent display at Veterans Park.

Each artist selected for the exhibit will receive $5,000, bringing the total budget for the project to $75,000.

“The visual themes of the artwork should celebrate the history and heritage of the United States of America, as well as the mission and core values of Coral Springs,” according to the listing.

The artwork must be installed by April 30.
