The Coral Glades High School community is mourning the loss of two students who died “tragically before their time,” the school announced Saturday, March 14.

School officials identified them as senior Zamshed Chowdhury and sophomore Remy Joseph.

“Zam — as he was affectionately known — was very well loved among the Coral Glades community: working at Dunkin and ABB Optical with several classmates; and spending time with his loving friends all four years of high school,” Coral Glades officials shared on Facebook.

His funeral was held Sunday at the Muslim Cemetery of South Florida in Hialeah Gardens.

Remy had started at Coral Glades High this year.

“Remy made an impact on all those he met: getting along with everyone; a respectful young man and nothing but a gentleman,” school officials wrote.

The students died in separate incidents, with principal Mark Kaplan sharing on social media that “losing 2 students in 7 days is not what any of us expected.”

Zam died in a single-vehicle crash on Friday at NW 118th Ave and NW 33rd Street behind the Sabal Pointe apartments on Sample Road, according to Coral Springs police.

A passenger was taken to Broward Health North with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

School isn’t in session this week due to spring break, but Coral Glades students are invited to bring flowers to Zam’s parking spot on campus after 1 p.m. on Monday.

The school is also opening the media center, called The Den, for students who need support on Monday.
