Planet Fitness appears to face closure in Coral Springs. Here’s what we know

A large “for lease” sign hangs on the front of a long-standing Planet Fitness on University Drive in Coral Springs, as the future of the gym looks grim.

An employee told the Coral Springs News the gym is permanently closing its location at 2101 N. University Dr. on Sunday, April 19. The gym is located in the same plaza as a Michael’s and Doris Italian Market & Bakery.

A sign posted in the gym reiterates the closing message and includes a QR code inviting members to continue their workouts at other locations at no cost.

But corporate has a different story.

A representative for the company told the Coral Springs News on March 16 that the Planet Fitness real estate team is “still evaluating our options,” and the company hasn’t determined whether the location is closing.

The next closest Planet Fitness is at 9535 Westview Drive in Coral Springs, with other locations in Coconut Creek and Tamarac.

The perilous future of the University Drive location follows the closure of a Planet Fitness in Margate.
