Broward Schools reopens late-application window for school choice. Here are details
If you’re still hoping to shop for which school you’ll send your kids to for the 2026-27 academic year, Broward County Public Schools says you have time.
The district’s late school choice application window opened April 1 for families looking to switch out of their home boundary-assigned school.
Alternatives that parents can try for include general reassignments, magnet and vocational programs, and dual enrollment alternatives at the College Academy at Broward College and Nova schools, college preparatory institutions.
To apply, families must create an online parent account with the district and submit an application through their BCPS Focus Parent Portal.
Technical assitance is available by contacting focuscommunications@browardschools.com., according to the district.
Some things to note:
- There’s no deadline set for the 2026-2027 late school choice window, but the submission period typically ends in late summer.
- Being selected for your top choice isn’t a “first come, first served” process, per BCPS.
- If there are more applicants to a school than there are available seats, a “computerized, random selection” — or lottery — will be held.
- And for those who already applied to a school during BCPS’ open enrollment period, your application is still active and won’t be affected by your late school choice request.
- Per the district, families should only submit a new application if they want to add an additional school choice option for their child outside of what they tried for during open enrollment.
