A pharmacist at a Coral Springs Publix had his license suspended by state officials who allege that he used his position of trust to acquire highly addictive medications prescribed to his patients.

According to an emergency order signed by the state’s Surgeon General, Dr. Anthony Thomas Palumbo altered multiple legitimate prescriptions for oxycodone and Percocet from October 2023 through August 2025.

While working at the Coral Springs Publix, Palumbo allegedly filled, paid for and signed the releases for an estimated 150 bottles of the highly addictive pain pills.

Official documents indicate that he confessed the actions to a Publix loss prevention officer, saying that he had “a personal opioid use issue.”

Palumbo is not facing criminal charges in Broward County Court as of April 8.

The Coral Springs News reached out to Palumbo and a Publix spokesperson for comment on April 8 but did not receive an immediate response.
