Students at Coral Springs Charter School were briefly placed on lockdown Thursday following reports that a student had brought a firearm to campus.

The Coral Springs Police Department was called to the school around 1 p.m. on April 16 and confirmed that there was no threat at the school as of 1:15 p.m. The lockout was lifted before 1:50 p.m.

“There [were] never any weapons seen at the school, no threat and all students are safe,” a Facebook post from the department said.

A school official told the Coral Springs News that the lockdown was allegedly caused by a student’s pencil case being mistaken for a weapon.

Students can be signed out at City Hall or at the school. Police will remain on scene to assist with dismissal.
