Large brush fire takes over west Broward, near Pembroke Pines. What we know
Western Broward County is up in flames following a large brush fire near a major highway, according to state and local authorities
Crews from the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Forest Service responded to the blaze — located just off U.S. Highway 27, near mile marker 45, west of Pembroke Pines — on April 21, both agencies told the Pembroke Pines News on April 22.
Aerial footage “showed thick smoke rising into the air from the fire,” NBC 6 reported, and several helicopters were dispatched to perform water drops, BSO spokesperson Michael Kane said.
Per the Florida Forest Service, the lead agency fighting the fire, the blaze has burned 5,000 acres and was 25% contained as of Tuesday evening.
Flames did not jump the highway as winds were blowing east to west, away from roadways, Kane said.
He said no road closures, evacuations or injuries have been reported in connection with the blaze.
