After six years of planning, the city of Coral Springs has finally opened the area’s newest community center.

“Originally opened in 1977 as Fire Station 2, the building served southeast Coral Springs for decades before the opening of Fire Station 64 next door in 2023,” an April 27 news release says. “The former station has now been reimagined into a modern community center while preserving its historic character.”

Though the center’s opening was delayed, elected officials praised staff for the care they put into the half-decade long process.

“One of the things I am most proud of is that this vision came directly from listening to residents,” Mayor Scott Brook said during the grand opening. “They told us they wanted more recreation opportunities, more spaces to gather, and more ways to connect with neighbors. The City Commission heard that feedback, and we stayed committed to making it happen.”

According to the city’s website, the new space at 500 Ramblewood Drive features:

  • A remodeled lounge area with seating and TVs
  • A renovated kitchen for cooking classes, meals
  • A new wood-floor indoor gym for pickleball and basketball, and an outdoor KOMPAN multi-use sports court
  • Added outdoor patio, large meeting room and front desk
  • Updated WiFi and security

The project cost an estimated $3.4 million, funded in part by $1.1 million from the American Rescue Plan Act, as well as support from the Florida Panthers Foundation.

Here’s what the final product looks like:
