Nancy Metayer’s mother to run for slain daughter’s Coral Springs commission seat
Marly Metayer has officialy joined the race to fill the City Commission seat that once belonged to her daughter, slain vice mayor Nancy Metayer, according to Coral Springs’ campaign finance website.
She does not appear to have a campaign website and has not spoken publicly about her campaign as of May 13.
She did, however, update her public Facebook profile, featuring an image of her wearing a T-shirt from Avanse Ansanm, a Haitian-American civic education organization Nancy Metayer helped establish.
Marly Metayer’s daughter was found dead in the home she shared with her husband, Stephen Bowen, on April 1. Bowen now faces premeditated murder and evidence tampering charges for allegedly shooting and killing her the night before she was set to announce a bid for Congress.
Her youngest son, Donovan Metayer, died in December. The 26-year-old was a Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting survivor who long struggled with his mental health.
Following the back-to-back tragedies, officials have praised Marly Metayer for her strength and thanked her for sharing her daughter with the South Florida community.
According to public records, Metayer is a registered nurse specializing in mental health and hospice care. She joins four other candidates who have filed as of May 13:
- Bill Capplis, a sergeant in the Coral Springs Police Department
- Adeline Darius, a research and contracts specialist
- Erick Nyatenya, a software engineer
- Terry Williams Edden, a longtime county-level candidate and former legal assistant at the Broward State Attorney’s Office
