Kebab Shop in Coral Springs takes protein connected to E. coli outbreak off menu
The menu at The Kebab Shop in Coral Springs looks different after a possible E. coli outbreak triggered changes.
The protein option beef kofta is no longer available after several cases were linked to the meat at one of the Mediterranean chain’s restaurants in California.
The California Department of Health linked the issue to a single supplier, Olympia Foods, resulting in Florida locations removing beef kofta from the menu.
The Kebab Shop CEO Arian Baryalai wrote in a May 22 message to customers: “We immediately stopped all sales of ground beef (beef kofta) nationwide on May 18, 2026, after CDPH linked the product as a potential source of the outbreak. As a result, there is no ongoing risk associated with this issue. ... All other proteins sold at TKS come from different suppliers and are not associated with this issue.”
As of May 19, nine California residents were infected with the outbreak strain, and five were hospitalized. No customers from other states are linked to the outbreak.
“We are deeply concerned that product from our supplier has been identified as the potential source of a foodborne illness outbreak. Our thoughts are with those who have been affected by this outbreak,” Baryalai wrote.
Other protein items on the menu can be ordered in wraps, bowls and plates, such as chicken shawarma, carved lamb and grilled sirloin steak.
The Kebab Shop is located at 1289 N. University Drive.
