Lottery ticket worth nearly $110,000 sold at Broward County grocery store

A Publix shopper in Broward County has reason to celebrate after winning nearly $110,000 while playing the lottery.

The lucky player won the jackpot prize in the June 8 evening drawing of the Fantasy 5 game with a ticket sold at the Publix Super Market at Village Square at 1657 N. Hiatus Road in Pembroke Pines.

The winner chose their own numbers rather than let the machine pick them and came up with the right combination of 6-8-14-17-24. They beat the 1-in-376,992 odds of matching all five numbers to win the top prize of $109,962.58.

The Pembroke Pines windfall marks the third time a winning Fantasy 5 ticket has been sold in Broward County in a five-day stretch, with the other tickets coming from Sunrise and Coral Springs.

The nearest lottery offices for South Florida players to claim their prizes are in West Palm and Miami.

Fantasy 5 drawings happen twice a day.
