Two Coral Springs residents died following a single-car accident in Coconut Creek on Saturday night.

Around 10:30 p.m. on June 27, the car struck a concrete traffic light pole on Sample Road near the entrance to Tradewinds Park, according to the Coconut Creek Police Department.

The driver, a 30-year-old male, and the passenger, a 26-year-old female, died at the scene. The victims’ identities have not been made public as of June 30.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision, and no one else was hurt, according to police.

Coconut Creek police public information officer Scott Leamon said that investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash. They do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor, he said, but are waiting for tests to come back.

The investigation is ongoing.
