Your guide to a fun-filled Coral Springs weekend of fandom, fairs and live music
Get ready for a packed weekend in Coral Springs.
Anime and video game fans are in for a big weekend at the three-day Mirai Convention, hosted by the Coral Springs Mariott.
Local freshwater and tropical fish lovers will also have their moment in the spotlight at the seventh annual Gold Coast Aquarium Society expo, located in the Coral Springs LaQuinta Inn and Suites.
These events don’t mean local favorites are going away. Across the area, residents can get their fill of fall festivals and live music, plus a beloved annual craft and thrift sale.
Here’s what to know for Oct. 17-19:
Friday
Broward County tax collector office hours (10 a.m.-2 p.m.)
Head to Coral Springs City Hall to get help with tax discounts, payment plans, and e-billing from staff members. Learn more online.
MiraiCon anime convention (11 a.m.-2 a.m.)
South Florida’s newest anime and gaming convention will take place at the Coral Springs Mariott Hotel & Convention Center this weekend, with attractions for anime fans, gamers, and pop culture enthusiasts. Traditional Japanese and techno music demonstrations, fandom panels, cosplay workshops and tutorials, speed friending and celebrity meet and greets are part of the Friday schedule.

‘Transitions’ opening reception at Coral Springs Museum of Art (6-9 p.m.)
Join artists and residents for the grand opening of a new exhibition centered around “moments of profound personal and collective change.” Learn more about the artists and their creations through our event feature here. Let’s Sing Taylor Live Experience (7 p.m.)
Swifties of all ages can head to Coral Springs Center for the Arts for a Taylor Swift tribute show. Ticket prices range from $40-$71.
Halloween sip and paint at Vibes Nutrition (7-9 p.m.)
Head to Coral Springs’ local juice bar for sweet treats and new friends. Tickets are $40, including all painting supplies and one menu item. Learn more on Facebook.
Live music at Eddie and Vinny’s Italian Cuisine (7-10 p.m.)

Saturday
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Craft and Rummage Sale (9 a.m.-5 p.m.)
The local Catholic church’s 31st annual market, featuring handmade housewares, jewelry, candles and more, plus donated items and baked goods from parishoners, returns Saturday. Get more information in our article here.
Rompiendo Estigmas: Simposio Latino para Padres (9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.)
United Way Broward will host a Spanish-language event , focusing on how parents and children can have honest and direct conversations about mental health. Learn more online.
MiraiCon anime convention (10 a.m.-2 a.m.)

Learn to code with Sphero Robot (11 a.m.-noon)
Programming beginners can join this online workshop focused on fun and educational apps for coding and play through the Broward Regional Library.
Imagine School at Broward Fall Festival (11 a.m.-4 p.m.)
Get your fill of fall shopping, face painting, family photos by Quadphotography, bounce houses and food trucks with the Imagine School’s Parent Teacher Organization . Freshwater aquarium, fish and plant expo (noon-5 p.m.)
The Gold Coast Aquarium Society will host its seventh annual show this weekend at the Coral Springs LaQuinta Inn and Suites. According to the organization’s website, booths will feature freshwater fish, shrimp, decorations, artwork, toys and apparel from a range of vendors, including historical fish farms and individual breeders.

Books and brunch writers group (1-3:30 p.m.)
This Northwest Regional Library group aims to redefine the book club experience for book lovers, poets, authors and other creatives. Learn more and RSVP here.
Charles Todd and Oline Cogdill: mystery writers live conversation (2-3:30 p.m.)
Broward County Public Library is launching its first live, in-studio program supporting the Rubel Mystery Collection with bestselling author Charles Todd and reviewer Oline Cogdill ahead of Todd’s newest novel, A Christmas Witness, hitting bookshelves nationwide.
The conversation will be available via Facebook Live, but Coral Springs residents who are willing to make the drive can attend in person at the Pompano Beach Library. Read more about the speakers and RSVP on the library’s event page here.
Coral Springs Thrills ‘n Chills (3-8 p.m.)
The city’s annual indoor carnival returns at the Coral Springs Gymnasium. The day will be broken into two sessions: one from 3-5 p.m. and the other from 6-8 p.m. Tickets can be pre-purchased online through Oct. 17 for $5 per person. Prices increase to $8 per person at the door, and will depend on session capacity.
Activities include carnival games, a Spooky Walkthrough, bounce house, giant slide, and maze. Children will also receive a treat bag as they exit the event.
Saturday pickleball at Terramar Park (6-8 p.m.)
Join the Boca Raton Pickleball Meetup Group for an evening friendly competition for players of all levels. Learn more and sign up to attend on Meetup.
Larry’s Ice Cream Halloween event (7-9 p.m.)
Larry’s Ice Cream and Cafe will have free face painting, balloons and the opportunity to take photos with Mickey and Minnie to celebrate Halloween. Learn more on the event’s Facebook page here.
Sunday
Light contact martial arts class (8:30-10 a.m.)
Join members of the Light Contact Skills Challenge to learn about Filipino martial arts and Tai chi. Details are to-be-decided, according to Meetup — interested residents can check out some of the exercises on YouTube and Facebook. Contact organizers or RSVP free for more details.

12-mile group bike ride with Boca Ski Club (10 a.m.-1 p.m.)
Join Boca Ski Club president Bruce Goodman for a morning ride through Parkland’s farm suburbs, starting at the Temple Park Equestrian Center. Riders will get lunch at Bluefin Parkland, a local Asian fusion restaurant, toward the end of the trip. RSVPs are required and organizers recommend coming with water and a bike lock.
MiraiCon anime convention (10 a.m.-7 p.m.)
The weekend-long convention ‘s final day features live K-pop and J-pop performances, a cosplay contest, as well as continued games, workshops, and panels. Find the schedule, FAQs, and tickets online.

Recurring events
Crafts and seeds at Northwest Regional Library — pick up a Halloween-themed craft and a free seed packet from the Broward Sierra Group during all open hours this weekend.
Live music at Sharkey’s Bar and Grill — Various bands take the stage throughout the weekend, including Fusion, Havoc 305 and DJ Taerock on Friday, Project X on Saturday, and bOunce on Sunday.
Fridays: Teen hangout in the Library Living Room — Middle and high school students have access to video games, cornhole, puzzles and more in the Northwest Regional Library’s event space after school lets out, with opportunities to work solo or hang out with friends. Fridays: Baby lapsit storytime and open play — Every Friday at 10:30 a.m., caregivers and children under 18 months old are welcome to join neighbors at Northwest Regional Library for songs and stories selected for their developmental needs. Registration is required. Afterward, there will be open play time to meet new friends, promoting social, motor and literacy skills.
Saturdays: R&B brunch at at Gigi’s Music Cafe from noon to 5 p.m. Go solo or with a group, like Corks and Melanin or African-American Social, Adventure and Sports.
Saturdays: Live music at JD’s Bar and Lounge — Never Say Never plays Saturday at 9 p.m.
Sundays: Open play tennis at Cypress Park — Players of all skill levels are welcome to join the Broward County Tennis and Pickleball Group from 8 to 10 a.m. for practice and friendly competition. Learn more and RSVP on Meetup.
