This weekend in Coral Springs is full of celebrations and opportunities to engage with the creative side, from music to collages, musicals, books and more.

Looking to get away for the evening? Coral Springs’ Motherhood Village will host a night out — where caregivers can drop off their kids and have a few well-deserved hours to themselves.

Or, families can take part in the City of Coconut Creek’s birthday celebration, which will include live music, games, rides and vendors.

Here’s our list of what to do in and around Coral Springs from Friday, Feb. 27, through Sunday, March 1:

Multiple days

Sawgrass Nature Center Orchid and Plant Festival (9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

This Saturday and Sunday, head to the wildlife education and rehabilitation center to check out vendors from around the state, plus live, interactive experiences with the center’s current patients. Get more info on Facebook.

Friday

Tai Chi class (12:30 to 1:30 p.m.)

Get introduced to the ancient Chinese practice to improve strength, flexibility and balance in this free class at the Northwest Regional Library, led by Sabrina Zhang. Registration is required. Learn more on the library events page.

Movie screening and discussion (3 to 4 p.m.)

Join residents from across Broward County for a virtual viewing of “Marshall,” the 2017 biopic of Thurgood Marshall, the first Black U.S. Supreme Court justice, centering his pivotal work as an NAACP lawyer. Then, follow up with an in-depth discussion about the film with Professor Tas Salini, instructor of Film History and Film Appreciation at Broward College. Retro record collage workshop (3 to 4 p.m.)

Transform old vinyl records into ready-to-display personalized photo collages at this Eagles’ Haven event. Participants must bring their own photos, but all other materials will be supplied by staff. RSVP and check out other events at eagleshaven.org.

Tamarac Food Truck Fridays (6 to 9 p.m.)

Enjoy live music from the Deep Fried Funk Band while savoring your favorite food trucks at Tamarac Village Ampitheater. Entry is free — view the flyer on Instagram.

Retro Radio at Lefty’s Tavern & Grille (7 p.m.)

Yellow Brick Joel (7:30 p.m.)

Head to the Coral Springs Center for the Arts for a “faithful tribute” to the Face to Face tours of the 1990s and 2000s, with David Clark as Billy Joel and Bill Connors as Elton John. They’ll play hits such as “Rocket Man,” “Piano Man,” “It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me,” “Bennie and the Jets” and others, plus deep cuts that dedicated fans won’t want to miss. Hairdaze and the Strangers at Sharkey’s (8 p.m.)

The Strangers will open the two-band evening at 8 p.m. with classic rock and original music, followed by 1980s rock covers by Hairdaze. Fans of Guns N Roses, Bon Jovi, Journey, Def Leppard and Motley Crue are encouraged to attend. Learn more and reserve a table online.

Valerie Tyson Band at Coconut Creek Casino (9 p.m.)

Beach dive with No Shenanigans (7 a.m.)

Join diving enthusiasts at No Shenanigans Diving in Coral Springs, then head to Pompano Beach to explore its clear blue waters. Intermediate volleyball (7:30 to 9:30 a.m.)

Enjoy friendly competition with experienced players at Betti Stradling Memorial Park with 3v3 and 4v4 matches organized by the Coral Springs Volleyballers. Sensory Saturdays (9 to 10 a.m.)

Every Saturday morning, guests who desire a calmer Coral Springs Museum of Art experience can enjoy its exhibits during a low-traffic hour outside of normal programming. Sensory kits are also always available at the Museum Front Desk for anyone in need. Learn more on the museum’s website.

Wags & Tales (10:30 to 11:30 a.m.)

Want to help your child improve their reading skills in a new, engaging way? Kids ages 5 to 12 are invited to Northwest Regional Library to read to a therapy dog and build their confidence in speaking. Learn more online.

Esther: The Musical (10:30 a.m.)

In celebration of Purim, Coral Springs’ Beth Yeshua congregation will put on “Esther: The Musical,” celebrating the story of a young Jewish woman who becomes queen of Persia and prevents the genocide of her people. A light lunch and costume party with prizes will follow. Learn more on Facebook.

Pediatrics meet and greet (11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)

Head to The Motherhood Village for an informal meet-and-greet with a local pediatric dentists designed to help parents connect and learn about medical services for kids. Open play ($20) will also be available for children in attendance. Learn more on Facebook.

Income tax assistance (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

Low- to moderate-income families in Broward County are eligible for free tax prep services, available in-person at the Northwest Regional Library. Appointments are required. Register and view the list of required documents online.

Ramadan fashion exhibition (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.)

ZN Fashions, an events-based company centering South Asian jewelry and clothing exhibitions, is bringing its market to the Coral Springs Marriott, “showcasing the finest in modest fashion and exquisite jewelry.” The gathering aims to celebrate the holy month and encourage attendees to embrace their personal style with curated pieces for iftars, Tarawih prayers and Eid celebrations. The history of Coral Springs and the Everglades (noon to 1 p.m.)

Explore how Coral Springs fits into a larger American story of growth while protecting the natural environment with city historian Cristina Fairhurst and former mayor Roy Gold at the Coral Springs Museum of History. Learn the tarot (noon to 1 p.m.)

Coconut Creek Butterfly Festival (2 to 8:30 p.m.)

Celebrate Coconut Creek’s birthday with live entertainment, crafts, food and beverage vendors, children’s activities and fireworks.

The schedule includes:

  • Business expo featuring over 75 local businesses, organizations and crafters (2 to 6 p.m.)
  • Live local performers (3 to 6 p.m.), followed by featured band The Hits, a Salute to America (6:30 p.m.)
  • Creek Eats Cooking Demo with Sette Mezzo Ristorante, $5 entry fee (2:30 and 4 p.m.)
  • Coconut Creek Police Department K-9 demonstration (3:30 p.m.)
  • Zambelli Fireworks display (8 p.m.)

Amusement rides are free for Coconut Creek residents with proof of residency. Non-residents must pay a $20 flat fee for activity wristbands. No public parking will be available at Sabal Pines Park due to the expected volume of attendees. Love and Deepspace meetup (2 to 7 p.m.)

Local farmers’ markets (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

The Parkland Farmers’ Market, located at the Parkland Equestrian Center, runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This week’s theme is “Birthday Celebration and Craft Fair,” and will also include fresh produce, gourmet spreads and treats, and handmade gifts. The Tamarac Farmers’ Market, located at Tamarac Veterans Park, runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring a smaller selection of fresh produce, jams and jellies, honey, hot food, gardening and handmade items. Check it out on Yelp.

Family hamantash bake (1:30 p.m.)

Participate in an annual Purim tradition with Chabad Jewish Center of Coral Springs in this hands-on event, where kids will mix, shape and fill their own Hamantashen, a triangular pastry with sweet filling symbolizing the death of the holiday’s villain, for baking at home. Learn more on Facebook.
