Dead and live roaches cause closure of Moe’s Southwest Grill in Coral Springs
Moe’s Southwest Grill on Coral Ridge Drive was temporarily shut down last week after a health inspector spotted over a dozen dead and live roaches during a recent visit.
The restaurant was allowed to re-open the next day after passing a follow-up inspection, according to records from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
The Coral Springs News reached out to the restaurant Feb. 23 for comment on the closure but did not immediately receive a response.
A health inspector stopped by the restaurant located at 6230 Coral Ridge Drive Suite 103 on Feb. 17 in response to a complaint and discovered conditions that warranted an emergency closure order that same afternoon.
The inspector found five live roaches and four dead roaches behind the notice board in the dishwashing area, as well as another live roach underneath a rice cooker in the prep station, according to the report.
The report also noted five dead roaches under the dressing cooler in the dining room, for a total of 15 dead and live insects.
While dead roaches are considered a basic violation, live roaches are a high-priority issue for the agency. Six roaches were enough for the agency to authorize a temporary closure until the restaurant resolved the issues.
The next morning, an inspector visited Moe’s again and gave the restaurant the green light to re-open.
The Coral Springs eatery was the only restaurant in Broward shut down by the state agency last week, records show.
