Unscheduled health inspections take place at local eateries every day in South Florida in an effort to ensure science-based food safety regulations are being followed.

Violations fall into three categories — High Priority, Intermediate and Basic — depending on their importance. Since July, the average Coral Springs establishment has seen 4.5 violations upon its first inspection. More than half fall into the ‘Basic’ category, including ice buildup in freezers and licenses not being prominently displayed.

This sets a high bar for restaurants aimed at a perfect score on the first try. These are the Coral Springs restaurants that made the cut in September.

Generoso’s Italian Sandwich Shoppe and Espresso Bar, 6230 Coral Ridge Dr. Suite 106

Last week, the Coral Springs Talk broke the news that Heron Bay couple Lauren and Tony Generoso, both hailing from New York City, plan to open a new sandwich shop in the heart of their neighborhood at the site of a former Subway.

While the restaurant hasn’t opened yet, it passed a licensing inspection with zero violations, paving the way for an eventual debut. The menu will include artisan sandwiches, espresso and favorite Italian side dishes, drawing on the couple’s professional baking and culinary experience.

Generoso’s has not yet announced its grand opening date, but has been teasing its menu and other surprises on Instagram.

Chipotle Mexican Grill #2996, 4600 University Dr.

State health inspectors didn’t find a single violation at the North Coral Springs location on Sept. 19.

The Tex-Mex grill chain’s website highlights its health and safety measures, including custom posters in every store, in-house nurses who consult on employee health and incentives for store managers to improve and maintain national standards.

Parkland Chef Catering, 9890 W. Sample Road

Husband and wife team Keith Blauschild and Dena Lowell started their luxury catering business in 2007 with a combined love for visual and culinary artistry.

The couple cites their professional backgrounds — Lowell as a fashion and jewelry designer in New York City, Blauschild as a chef and master ice carver — as what makes the company special.

According to LinkedIn, Parkland Chef Catering was an approved vendor for the NFL Super Bowl 2020 and has been The Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival’s exclusive caterer since 2009.

The couple also opened The Cook & The Cork in 2014.

Some local eateries performed better than others during recent inspections. One Coral Springs restaurant was cited for 10 violations, the Coral Springs News reported.
