Jeffrey Evans II will not be allowed to leave Broward County and will continue to wear an ankle monitor pending trial for a domestic violence charge related to the death of his wife, Jessica Lloyd, Judge Chris Brown ruled Thursday, Oct. 23.

Attorneys for the state and Lloyd’s family provided statements regarding Evans’ prior domestic violence charge in 2020, as well as personal stories about his alleged past angry outbursts and their fears that he would retaliate against them for speaking up in the case.

The victim’s mother, Rita Lloyd, pleaded with the judge to continue restrictions on Evans’ movement for the safety of herself and her family.

“I am asking, please, for some peace,” she said, appearing to hold back tears.

The Oct. 23 hearing surrounding Jeffrey Evans’ ankle monitor lasted roughly 20 minutes, ending with Judge Chris Brown’s decision to continue pre-trial restrictions.

Evans’ attorney argued that his client was not a threat to the public and wanted to travel for recreation and PTSD treatment, but Judge Brown sided with the Lloyd family, citing Evans’ record and the current domestic violence charge’s proximity to his wife’s death.

Judge Brown also instituted a protection order, which prohibits Evans from contacting Jessica Lloyd’s family or any potential witnesses or participants in his case.

“We feel much safer now,” Brittany Lloyd, Jessica’s sister, wrote in a statement to the Coral Springs News. “The judge was fair and made a good judgment.”

The Coral Springs News reached out to the Coral Springs Police Department and Evans’ attorney for comment on Oct. 23 but did not get an immediate response.

Evans, 43, was arrested days after his wife, Jessica Lloyd, was found floating face down in a canal behind the couple’s home in August. Neighbors reported her screaming for help, saying her husband was trying to kill her, the Miami Herald reported.

He was released on $1,000 bail with the ankle monitor on Aug. 29, the day after his arrest.

The homicide investigation into Lloyd’s death is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective J. Girard at JGirard@coralsprings.gov.
