A two-vehicle collision near Coral Springs Middle School killed one woman this morning, shutting down all westbound lanes of Wiles Road at Coral Springs Drive for several hours.

Coral Springs police identified the victim as 26-year-old Liz Garcia on Wednesday evening.

According to police, Garcia failed to stop at a red light at Coral Springs Drive and Wiles Road shortly before 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 5, causing a collision with a red Ford pickup truck. The truck driver, a 19-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Garcia was found in a red Toyota and declared dead when Coral Springs Fire Rescue arrived on the scene, authorities said.

“As traffic continues to rise and the holiday season is approaching, the Coral Springs Police Department would like to remind drivers to stay alert and make safety their top priority while behind the wheel,” Sgt. James Kaban wrote in the department’s statement.

Police are asking that any witnesses or individuals with information about the crash contact Officer Luke Jennings at ljennings@coralsprings.com.
