Light the Fire Ministries announced in a Facebook post that the group’s founder and daughter died in the Monday, Nov. 10, plane crash in Coral Springs while bringing supplies to Hurricane Melissa victims in Jamaica.

Alexander Wurm, 52, founded the Cayman Islands-based Light the Fire Ministry. According to their website, the group is dedicated to “empowering youth through missions and evangelism across the Caribbean.”

Serena Wurm, 22, was reportedly assisting on the trip. She was also active in the Southeastern University campus community, according to her social media.

The pair made multiple flights to Montego Bay after Hurricane Melissa made landfall on Oct. 28, carrying a Starlink satellite system, solar panels, generators, tarps, and other needed items to other aid groups, including Crisis Response International.

According to an Instagram post, Light the Fire Ministry purchased the aircraft within the past few weeks specifically for missions to Jamaica.

The crash occurred around 10:19 a.m. on Monday, according to Coral Springs police. Video footage shows the King Air B100’s final moments, crashing into a small neighborhood lake at a high speed.
