Homicide count down in Coral Springs in 2025. One high-profile case remains open
Coral Springs appears on track to record fewer homicides in 2025 than the four murders reported last year, based on police investigations and publicly reported cases through mid-December.
An official homicide count for 2025 will be finalized once the Coral Springs Police Department completes its year-end statistical reporting of all crimes.
However, through Dec. 16, police news releases and social media posts indicate the city has handled less than four confirmed homicide cases this year, positioning Coral Springs for a potential decline in its year-end total.
By comparison, the Broward Sheriff’s Office has handled 42 homicides this year, the agency told the Coral Springs News.
In Coral Springs, one mysterious, high-profile death in 2025 remains under investigation.
On Aug. 25, Jessica Lloyd, 38, a nurse, was found dead, face down in a canal near her home on the 9900 block of NW 15th Court. Neighbors reported hearing a woman, supposedly Lloyd, screaming outside her home, “My husband is trying to kill me!”
Her husband, Jeffrey Ernest Evans, 43, a retired Davie Fire Rescue Department lieutenant, also called 911, telling dispatchers his wife was having a “mental break” and needed police assistance.
Evans was arrested on a domestic battery charge after officers responded to the scene. The case remains under investigation. No murder charges have been filed, and Evans has been released on bond with an ankle monitor, despite objections from Lloyd’s family during court proceedings.
The case, and Lloyd’s family, have drawn attention to domestic violence concerns. Police officials have emphasized continued focus on these cases.
A second death, which occurred on Oct. 12, is being investigated as a potential traffic homicide, according to a Coral Springs police official, though that case also remains open.
Debra Indar, 65, of Coral Springs, was killed when the Toyota Corolla she was traveling in as a passenger was struck by a Chevrolet Impala at Sample Road and Woodside Drive. The driver of the Chevy fled the scene on foot.
Indar was rushed to a hospital but died from her injuries two days later. No arrests have been made in her death as of Dec. 16. The Toyota driver also was hospitalized, but survived the crash.
