Coral Springs man accused of pulling gun on his wife owned 40 firearms, cops say
A husband accused of pointing a gun at his wife and pulling the trigger in a domestic incident was found to own an arsenal of firearms, according to Coral Springs police.
Months later, 55-year-old Steven Tomasek is charged with aggravated domestic battery with a deadly weapon. His attorney information wasn’t available in Broward court records as of Jan. 14.
The incident happened on Thanksgiving, but wasn’t reported until Jan. 6, according to a probable cause affidavit from the Coral Springs Police Department.
Tomasek’s wife told investigators that on Nov. 27, she and her husband were in their bedroom when Tomasek got angry and confronted her about a piece of furniture that was outside.
She told officers Tomasek pulled a handgun on her, pushed it into her abdomen and pulled the trigger twice, but the gun didn’t go off, according to police. She said she thought she was going to die, as she didn’t know whether the gun was loaded or not.
The other witness, whose identity is redacted from the affidavit, told police he entered the couple’s bedroom after hearing an altercation, then he saw Tomasek pointing the gun at his wife, according to the affidavit. He said he heard two clicks before Tomasek said, “You’re dead,” according to the affidavit.
The witness said he told Tomasek to get away from the woman.
Officers wrote they learned from their interviews that Tomasek had been drinking more lately, and his mental health had been worsening in recent years. The wife and the witness both reported Tomasek had been “aggressive” lately and was threatening his wife, according to the report.
Officers noted Tomasek “has approximately 40 firearms and extensive military training.”
Four days after his wife reported the incident, Tomasek was arrested when he got home from work, police said.
A judge set his bond to $40,000 and ordered him to wear an ankle monitor if he bonds out. He was being held in Broward jail as of Jan. 14.
