Man arrested after threatening to kill pregnant girlfriend, Coral Springs cops say
A couple’s argument nearly turned deadly for a pregnant woman, a recent arrest report filed by the Coral Springs Police Department says.
At 7:13 p.m. on Feb. 11, 911 operators received a call from a woman who stated that she had been battered by her live-in boyfriend, Jadavien Brown, and that they were at the Benihana restaurant on University Drive.
After arriving on the scene, an officer located the couple still actively arguing at a table inside, according to his report. He spoke to Brown first, who stated that the couple had been arguing on and off for several days, and that he had insisted that they go to Benihana to discuss their issues.
“Jadavien took [the victim’s] cell phone and pushed her in the face with an open hand,” the arrest report states. “The couple then proceeded to Benihana, where they continued arguing until CSPD arrived.”
The officer then spoke with the victim. She said the two had been dating for about five months, and that she is approximately one and a half months pregnant.
Brown was initially excited about the news, the victim stated, but she had noticed him becoming “extremely angry,” according to the report.
“She stated that Jadavien told her to get in the car and drive to Benihana because he did not want to remain at home,” the report says. “Near the 6200 block of W. Sample Road, Jadavien snatched her phone from her hand and pushed her in the face.”
“During the drive, Jadavien also grabbed the steering wheel from the passenger seat and aggressively pulled it, causing her to nearly lose control of the vehicle, while stating that he would kill them both.”
The officer also wrote that an additional witness told him that she overheard Brown tell the victim not to tell police about the physical altercation, stating that he “does it out of love” and that it was “a personal matter.”
Brown, 25, was arrested shortly afterwards. According to public records, he was being held in the Broward County jail and faces a second-degree felony charge for aggravated domestic battery of a pregnant person.
