‘Cherished father’ killed in Coral Springs e-bike crash remembered for kindness
The victim of the fatal Feb. 10 e-bike crash on Coral Ridge Drive has been identified, with family members sharing the news on social media.
Franklin Osorio, 62, is described as “a cherished father, grandfather and friend” who was always ready to lend a hand to those who needed it.
He worked as a handyman and had a variety of hobbies, including fishing, drawing and collecting coins.
Born in October 1963 in Puerto Rico, Osorio had lived in Coral Springs for over a decade. He is survived by seven children (Jahaira, Franklin, Angel, Sandra, Victor, Johnathan and Julia) and several grandchildren.
“Franklin leaves behind an enduring legacy of kindness and creativity,” his obituary reads.
Osorio was struck by a pickup truck while riding an e-bike near the intersection of Eagle Trace Boulevard and Coral Ridge Drive, which borders several residential neighborhoods, as well as a Christian church and the Eagle Trace golf course.
The driver of the truck was uninjured and remained at the scene, according to Coral Springs police. The investigation is ongoing.
This marks the first fatal e-bike collision in Coral Springs since the City Commission loosened restrictions around the use of such devices in the city and follows a string of crashes in the area — many involving children.
Osorio will be buried at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Family members have posted a fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses and related costs following his death.
“The costs are overwhelming, and we want to give him the respectful farewell he deserves while also supporting our family through this difficult time,” Sandra Osorio, who set up the page, wrote in a post.
