Unlicensed contractor took payment but never started job, Coral Springs cops say
An unlicensed contractor hired to install hurricane impact glass in Coral Springs pocketed the homeowners’ money and never did the job, police said.
Ernesto Hernandez Acosta, 42, is charged with second-degree grand theft and receiving money as a contractor without a license in connection with a 2024 agreement that was never executed, records show.
The Delray Beach man was arrested in Palm Beach County and bonded out of Broward jail Feb. 16. His attorney information was not available in court records as of Feb. 18.
A Coral Springs couple reached out to Hernandez Acosta’s company, FTD Windows and Doors LLC, to replace nearly two dozen windows and a handful of doors with hurricane impact glass, according to an arrest affidavit from the Coral Springs Police Department.
They signed a $55,000 contract in July 2024, and the couple wrote him a $27,500 check for half the project up front, police said.
Records show he cashed the check the next day in West Palm Beach.
“There were no materials delivered to the victim’s home for the project, no permit was obtained by the subject from the city of Coral Springs Building Department for the project, and the project to replace 23 windows, one front door, one French door and four sliding glass doors was never initiated by the subject,” police wrote in the affidavit.
When the couple reached out to Hernandez Acosta about the project, he repeatedly gave excuses, the homeowners told investigators.
Police said they learned Hernandez Acosta never had a contractor’s license.
A warrant was issued for his arrest in October 2025, and he was arrested on the out-of-county warrant Feb. 5 before being transferred to custody in Broward, records show.
