Joyful Resistance Coral Springs once again will join groups across the United States for the third iteration of nonviolent protests for No Kings Day, organizers announced.

The event will take place on Saturday, March 28, at University Drive and Sample Road from 9 a.m. to noon, with music, signs and cowbells, as well as a postcard-writing campaign to push against the SAVE Act and immigration authority agreements in South Florida.

“We’re dealing with even more acts of violence and cruelty and injustice than I think we even thought possible,” Christine Calareso Bleecker, one of the leaders of Joyful Resistance, told the Coral Springs News on March 17.

She cited continued ICE raids and indefinite detention, extrajudicial killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, and the Trump administration’s war in Iran.

“People can’t even say anymore, ‘Well, the economy is great.’ The economy is not great. Gas prices are skyrocketing, now grocery prices are skyrocketing. Nothing is good for any American, and this is a problem,” Bleecker said.

The group will also collect donations for Care Commons, Joyful Resistance’s community service arm which distributes most-needed items to local food pantries and shelters.

“The more that this economy tanks, the more that people are knocked off of SNAP benefits, the more that people are knocked out of health insurance, the need is so much greater, and donations are down,” Bleecker said. “We stand in the gap.”

Donation requests include new socks and underwear, diapers of all sizes, wipes, diaper cream, soap, 3-in-1 baby wash, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, shoes and gas cards, according to the Care Commons website.

The group has also participated in regular vigils at the Broward Transitional Center, a lesser-known ICE facility, and hosted guest speakers such as city commissioner and mayoral candidate Joshua Simmons and social media influencer “The Dad Briefs.” Members also attended a vigil at Alligator Alcatraz on March 1.

More information about parking, rules and safety is available on the Joyful Resistance website and newsletter archive.

No Kings events will also take place in Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, Hollywood, Miami and Miami Beach. Get more information about the protests via Mobilize.
