Woman accused of crashing into building resists officers during arrest, cops say
A woman suspected of crashing a car into an apartment building also damaged a patrol vehicle and resisted officers trying to arrest her, Coral Springs police said.
Brianna Ascar, 24, of Miami Gardens, reportedly was trying to help her friend who had been locked out of her apartment the evening of March 19, police wrote in an arrest affidavit.
Ascar’s friend called her for help to climb into her second-floor unit via the balcony, according to the affidavit.
Another resident heard what sounded like a car hitting the building, then he looked to see a woman standing on top of a compact, silver car trying to get up to the balcony of the unit above his, he told police.
An officer arrived and found a vehicle matching that description with damage to the front, as well as footprints on the hood, according to the affidavit. Ascar was in the driver’s seat, and her friend was the passenger, police said.
The officer told Ascar to turn off the car, but she didn’t and “became verbally hostile,” the officer said.
Police tried to remove Ascar from the car so she couldn’t drive away, but she’s accused of resisting and refusing to give her name, then they ended up on the ground, officers said.
She reportedly wouldn’t let police handcuff her, but after a struggle in which she reportedly threatened the officer, police put her hands behind her back and cuffed her, according to the report.
As police were trying to get her into the patrol car, she kicked the door shut and kicked a side panel, reportedly causing “substantial damage,” police wrote.
Another resident of the building gave police security footage of the initial incident, according to investigators.
Ascar is charged with criminal mischief, resisting an officer with violence and assault (verbal threat on a law enforcement officer). Records show she bonded out of Broward jail March 23.
