Formerly incarcerated people struggle to find reliable work at rates eclipsing even the worst figures seen in the general population during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to one report by the Prison Policy Institute.

A job fair coming to Coral Springs is looking to change that.

Better Together, a national Christian nonprofit that seeks to combat joblessness, is set to host the Second Chances Job Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, at New Springs Church, located at 11464 W. Sample Road.

The event has an expanded audience, too, according to a news release.

“Our second-chance job fair lifts up job seekers who face barriers to employment, including past incarceration, gaps in employment, and lack of resources,” it reads.

These struggles are often combined with shortfalls in housing, transportation and childcare — barriers that Better Together organizers say they hope to alleviate with the fair, which will include babysitting, career coaching and other free resources.

Featured employers include:

  • Kelly Education
  • Fortified Insurance Alliance
  • US Dental Depot
  • Teleperformance
  • O.I.C of South Florida
  • The U.S. Army

Job seekers, employers and resource providers can RSVP for free on the Better Together events page.
