Two men are dead and another has been arrested after a car fleeing police crashed into a Parkland canal in the early-morning hours of Friday, April 17.

According to a Broward Sheriff’s Office news release, the vehicle’s three occupants were fleeing Sunrise police in a 2025 BMW X1 when it crashed into the canal on the north side of Loxahatchee Road around 2:20 a.m.

The reason Sunrise police pursued the vehicle, and who was driving, are unclear.

Sunrise police officers arrested Anthony Davis, 26, shortly after locating the vehicle, the release says. However, they were unable to find its other two occupants, Jerome Turner, 32, and Kelby Broward-Richardson, 31.

“Throughout the day, BSO Aviation, BSO K-9, BSO Drone units and the BSO Dive Team responded to the scene in an effort to locate both occupants,” officials wrote.

“Investigators say, later that evening, both occupants were located deceased in the canal by [the] BSO Dive Team.”

Davis was charged with robbery by sudden snatching and resisting arrest, records show.
