Calvary Chapel Parkland finalizes plans for new home nearby in Coral Springs
Seven years after beginning as a Bible study in the wake of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, the congregation that became Calvary Chapel Parkland is relocating to a new home in Coral Springs.
The Parkland campus of the non-denominational church based in Fort Lauderdale, with locations across South Florida, was operating out of a shopping plaza technically in Coconut Creek on the northeast corner of Wiles Road and U.S. 441.
“It’s been a journey of faith, and we’re thrilled,” Pastor Steve Daigle told the Coral Springs News on May 14 about the move. “We’ve been outgrowing the space.”
The new spot will be a stone’s throw from the previous one, on the northwest corner of the intersection, at the former Walgreens at 4601 N. State Road 7. The current campus will remain open until the lease is up next year, then the new location is tentatively expected to open in May 2027.
Daigle said what began as a Bible study at a community clubhouse moved to meetings in coffee shops, Westglades Middle School, the Marriott hotel by Heron Bay and a movie theater, before settling at the shopping plaza five years ago.
As the church has grown, it has encountered issues with the size of the space and parking.
“We’ve been looking for permanent space ever since we started leasing this space,” Daigle said. “We’re excited to be in Coral Springs.”
As the organization closed on the deal to acquire the property, the church hosted a May 7 prayer walk, where over 100 members of the congregation gathered at the old Walgreens to worship and pass through the empty shelves of the convenience store that will become their new church.
While building permits are underway and plans have yet to be finalized, the new campus is expected to include a sanctuary double the size of the previous one, counseling offices, and ministries for adults and kids, Daigle said, adding the church has been in communication with city leaders about moving into the Coral Springs community.
