Coral Springs man arrested after stolen car chase kills bystander, cops say
Following an alleged car theft multi-city chase, multiple injuries and one death, a Coral Springs man is in custody and faces several felony charges, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Sean Paul Holder, 30, is accused of stealing a gray Jeep Cherokee in Margate, then evading police through Tamarac on Monday, Feb. 16.
According to his arrest paperwork, Holder reversed the stolen vehicle into a BSO patrol car with a deputy still inside, then took off. After joining the chase, another deputy attempted a PIT maneuver but was unsuccessful.
The deputy lost control of his vehicle and crashed into Ronald Wilson’s silver Toyota Tacoma, records say.
Wilson died instantly, according to a GoFundMe created to cover his funeral expenses. He would have turned 75 on Sunday, Feb. 22, and is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
An unidentified passenger was hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery, according to reports.
BSO officials said in a statement that its agency’s Pursuit Review Board will determine if deputies followed protocol on vehicle chases, the Miami Herald reported.
The agency also stressed “that deputies began pursuing the suspect’s vehicle following an aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, which is a forcible felony.”
Holder has over a decade of history with Broward law enforcement, beginning with minor charges for traffic infractions and marijuana possession, then escalating to domestic violence, petit theft and auto theft.
He is being charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, grand theft auto and repeatedly driving with a suspended license, records show. He also faces a second-degree murder charge following Wilson’s death.
