CLARIFICATION: Coral Springs police learned the man who died in the April 17 crash was riding an electric motorcycle, or e-moto.

The story continues below.

A man riding an e-moto “collided” with a marked Coral Springs Police Department patrol vehicle and died on Friday night, the agency said.

Police have identified him as 60-year-old Guy Scott.

The crash involving the e-moto and an on-duty officer happened at around 9:40 p.m. on April 17 near the 4300 block of Riverside Drive, police said in a statement the following morning.

Officers began providing aid until the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department took him to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead.

It’s the second deadly crash involving an e-bike or e-moto in the last eight months in Coral Springs as the city’s public safety officials are grappling with how to curb accidents. They’ve turned to education campaigns, citations and towing illegal devices while state legislators work to sort out regulations.

A 62-year-old man riding an electric bike was killed in a crash with a pickup truck in February.

Anyone with information on the latest incident is asked to contact Ofc. Reinoso at xreinoso@coralsprings.gov or 954-346-1269. The investigation is ongoing.
