An e-bike rider “collided” with a marked Coral Springs Police Department patrol vehicle and died on Friday night, the agency said.

The rider’s identity has not been shared, but police said the victim was an adult man.

The crash happened at around 9:40 p.m. on April 17 near the 4300 block of Riverside Drive, police said in a statement the following morning.

Officers began providing aid until the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department took him to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead.

It’s the second deadly e-bike crash in the last eight months in Coral Springs as the city’s public safety officials are grappling with how to curb accidents. They’ve turned to education campaigns, citations and towing illegal devices while state legislators work to sort out regulations.

A 62-year-old man riding an electric bike was killed in a crash with a pickup truck in February.

Anyone with information on the latest incident is asked to contact Ofc. Reinoso at xreinoso@coralsprings.gov or 954-346-1269. The investigation is ongoing.
