A crash involving an electric motorcycle sent one person to a hospital, the latest in a series of similar accidents in Coral Springs.

Around 2:24 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, police responded to reports of a crash in the 2000 block of N. University Drive.

A juvenile male riding the electric motorcycle collided with a vehicle, a department spokesperson told the Coral Springs News. The individual sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Traffic flow was restored shortly after police arrived on the scene, according to Waze data.

E-bike and e-moto crashes involving teens and young adults are an ongoing issue in Coral Springs, according to police, who said in a recent Facebook post that they are called to up to three crashes per day involving the devices.

Past collisions have led to serious injuries and death for riders, including 62-year-old Franklin Osorio, described as “a cherished father, grandfather and friend” who was always ready to lend a hand to those who needed it.

City officials encourage parents and all e-bike riders to be aware of the risks of the devices and to stay educated about rider safety.
