A driver is suing Coral Springs, saying one of the city’s police officers merged into his lane and crashed into him in May 2025.

Attorneys representing the man filed the lawsuit in Broward County on June 19, seeking damages over $100,000.

The driver said he was heading east on Royal Palm Boulevard near the intersection with University Drive the evening of May 13, 2025, according to the filing.

At the same time, a Coral Springs police officer driving a city-owned 2020 Chevrolet “failed to use due care while attempting to change lanes on Royal Palm Boulevard, causing a collision with Plaintiff’s vehicle,” the lawsuit says.

The driver is accusing the city of negligence and property damage, citing that the city would be liable for its employee’s actions. His attorneys say he was injured and suffered distress, and that his 2010 Mazda was damaged.

The city does not comment on pending litigation.

The lawsuit is one of several filed against Coral Springs in recent months pertaining to car accidents reportedly involving Coral Springs police officers.

In April, the family of a 6-year-old girl killed by a driver fleeing a Coral Springs police traffic stop filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city. Records show that case is headed to trial next year.

Another driver accusing the city of negligence also filed a lawsuit in April, saying a Coral Springs police officer driving a patrol vehicle hit his car in Pompano Beach. City attorneys got one count of that lawsuit dismissed, but a negligence charge remains pending.

The city has not filed a response to the latest piece of litigation.
