Live music and family-friendly fun: Your guide to this weekend in Coral Springs

Events are slowly returning as the city comes out of its holiday season hibernation, with opportunities to learn a new skill, get active or enjoy some carnival fun while the good weather holds.

And, Coral Springs’ music scene continues to flourish with live performances at local favorites as well as this-weekend-only experiences at Parkland’s Family Fun Fest Carnival.

Here’s your guide to what’s happening in and around Coral Springs from Friday, Jan. 9, through Sunday, Jan. 11:

Friday

Baby lapsit storytime and play date (11 to 11:30 a.m.)

Head to the Northwest Regional Library for songs, rhymes and stories selected for babies’ developmental needs. This is followed by an open play date for children and caregivers where little ones can improve social, motor and literary skills. Registration is required.

Gentle yoga for beginners (11 a.m. to noon)

Learn yoga through gentle movement and breath work, guided by a certified instructor. No previous experience is required, but registration is highly recommended. Learn more and sign up on the library’s events page.

Make a vision board (4 to 5 p.m.)

Visualize what you want to accomplish in the new year with this family-friendly program at the Northwest Regional Library. Materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own images as well. Learn more on the library website.

Live music (various times)

Saturday

Read to a therapy dog (1 to 2 p.m.)

Kids ages 5-12 can practice their skills and increase confidence while reading to therapy dog Zoey. Registration is not required, but the program is on a first-come, first-served basis. Learn more on the library events website.

Learn to use the library makerspace (various times)

However you choose to attend, you can learn how to unleash your creativity with the Creation Station. It’s equipped with a state-of-the-art computer, 3D printers, a cutting machine and other gadgets. Attend virtually from 11 a.m. to noon, or in person at the local library from 2 to 3 p.m.

Live music (various times)

Sunday

Tennis at Cypress Park (8 to 10 a.m.)

All players are welcome to play with fellow tennis enthusiasts at the park. Registration is highly recommended. Learn more on Meetup.

Women’s golf clinic (4 to 5 p.m.)

Join the first of five sessions and learn the fundamentals of the game and build confidence on the course. Sessions happen every Sunday at Colony West Golf Course — and no clubs are required. Learn more with Women on the Course.

Multiple days

MLK Art and Literary Exhibit

Students from around Coral Springs entered their artworks to be considered for Martin Luther King Jr. holiday display at the Coral Springs Museum of Art. The winners now have their work available to view until Jan. 28. Learn more on the museum’s website.

Family Fun Fest Carnival

Head to Parkland’s Equestrian Center at 8350 Ranch Road for three days of rides, games, live music and food. The schedule includes:

  • Friday: Open 5 to 10 p.m. with a live Elvis tribute from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: Open noon to 10 p.m. with a live performance by Clean Slate Band from 5 to 7 p.m. and KRUSH from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
  • Sunday: Open noon to 6 p.m.
