Beloved Thai and sushi restaurant in Coral Springs quietly closes after 18 years
Tobu Thai & Sushi, located in the Turtle Run Shoppes on W. Sample Road in Coral Springs, will not reopen in the new year. The restaurant has permanently closed after nearly two decades.
According to UberEats, the eatery quietly stopped taking orders on Dec. 19.
Restaurantgoers mourned its closure online.
Tobu, which opened in 2007, received highly positive reviews on major platforms such as Yelp, highlighting it as a hidden gem with exceptional service, flavor and portions.
Food and beverage reporters noted 2025 was a particularly brutal year for Broward County restaurants. That includes Coral Springs, which recently lost local favorites Angelo Elia and Family Bagels of Long Island.
According to the National Restaurant Association, restaurants across the United States are facing a number of economic headwinds. While COVID-19 pandemic shifts have largely stabilized, increased costs for supplies, labor and rent, as well as decreased tourism and consumer confidence, are hurting the industry.
Despite these factors, new eateries are coming to the city. That includes Ember and Vine, Flora’s Italian Eatery, Mitch’s Downtown Bagel Cafe and Mojo Donuts, as well as Smalls Sliders and Long Island Bagel Cafe.
Tobu Thai & Sushi’s owners, Darunee and Aukcravitch Chainuvati, could not be reached for comment by the Coral Springs News on Jan. 5.
